Tax Planning and Preparation

Your financial plan can become derailed without proper tax planning. Our firm offers both tax planning and preparation in tandem for a more cohesive, successful tax avoidance strategy. Daniel Colston, CFP® has prepared tax returns for clients for 3 tax seasons and is currently studying for the three parts of the Enrolled Agent of the IRS exam.

How is tax planning implemented for clients?

There are so many planning opportunities when it comes to tax planning. We will seek to capitalize on all the opportunities related to taxes such as selecting tax-efficient investments in brokerage accounts, selling highly appreciated assets over several years to avoid capital gains taxes, contributing to Roth IRA’s, backdoor Roth IRA contributions, qualified plan and traditional IRA contributions for tax deferral and deduction in the same year, highly appreciated cryptocurrencies, net unrealized appreciation, Roth IRA conversions, gifting assets, estate planning tax implications, annuities, life insurance, Charitable Remainder Trusts, and other tax issues in retirement and while earning an income.

Why tax preparation?

We prepare our clients’ tax returns for a competitive price and exceptional service. This is a natural time to look at how your tax situation has changed from the previous year and a good time to make last minute IRA contributions. Often, clients forget to give their 1099-DIV or 8949 forms to their CPA’s so it serves them better when we already have these forms on file from their investment accounts and can include them in their tax returns as we file them.

What if I love my CPA and don’t want you to do my taxes.

That’s perfectly fine. While we believe we do an exceptional job at a reasonable price filing your tax return, we respect any relationship you have with your CPA or if you wish to file yourself on Turbotax, however we simply wish to receive a copy of your tax return after you have filed so that we can review it for ongoing tax planning purposes.
