Exciting Growth and Updates at Upward Financial Planning

There are many exciting things happening right now at Upward Financial Planning, and we wanted to take a moment to share some updates with our clients, friends, and community.

A New Office Building and Future Expansion

We are thrilled to announce that we recently purchased the former office building of Bruce Mayer, a beloved attorney and respected member of the Vinton community who served hundreds of local families and clients throughout his career. We are honored to continue the legacy of such a well-known and trusted location in the community.

The property includes a large office space along with a spacious parking lot that can accommodate up to 18 vehicles in the rear of the building, creating a much more convenient experience for our clients and visitors.

In addition, we also acquired an adjoining office building that will house Daniel’s other businesses. Renovations and remodeling projects are currently underway, and we are looking forward to officially moving into the new space within the next couple of months.

Once construction is complete, we plan to celebrate with an official ribbon cutting ceremony alongside the Roanoke Regional Chamber and the Vinton Chamber of Commerce. We are incredibly excited about what this next chapter means for the future of our firm and our clients.

Community Involvement and Chamber Partnerships

This year has already been filled with meaningful networking opportunities and community engagement. Recently, our team attended the Vinton Chamber Golf Tournament where we made several wonderful connections with local business owners and professionals.

We also hosted a giveaway during the event, and we would like to congratulate Landon Prillaman of Rocky Mount as our winner.

We are especially proud to continue growing our relationship with the Vinton Chamber of Commerce as one of their Diamond Sponsors this year. Supporting local businesses and helping strengthen our community remains a major focus for us.

Continuing Education and Professional Development

In early June, Daniel Colston will be traveling to Philadelphia to attend the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors conference.

The conference will feature industry experts discussing a wide variety of important topics, including:

  • Economic outlooks for 2026
  • Artificial intelligence and its impact on investing
  • Practice management and ethics
  • Employee stock compensation programs including RSUs, ISOs, NQSOs, and ESPPs
  • ESOP planning
  • Advanced tax planning strategies
  • Behavioral finance and investing psychology

Daniel is a lifelong learner who is passionate about continuously improving his knowledge and capabilities in order to better serve clients with increasingly complex financial planning needs. The conference will also provide continuing education credits that count toward maintaining his Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards certification and CFP® credential.

Tax Season and Firm Growth

While tax season is mostly behind us, we are still helping several clients finalize business tax returns and navigate ongoing planning opportunities.

At the same time, we continue to welcome new clients to the firm and grow our assets under management. We are also actively interviewing candidates for a paraplanner position — an exciting opportunity for someone looking to learn the financial planning industry from the ground up and eventually grow into an advisory role.

Leadership in the Estate Planning Community

Daniel is also honored to serve in a four-year volunteer leadership role with the Roanoke Valley Estate Planning Council. He is currently completing his first year as Treasurer and will continue progressing through leadership roles including Secretary, Vice President, and eventually President.

This organization includes many of the leading estate planning attorneys, accountants, and financial advisors in the Roanoke Valley, and Daniel greatly values the opportunity to collaborate with such talented professionals.

Market and Economic Thoughts

From an economic standpoint, there continues to be significant uncertainty in global markets. Geopolitical tensions involving Iran and the Strait of Hormuz remain important developments to watch closely. At the same time, there has been increased focus on domestic economic growth initiatives and efforts to encourage businesses to invest and expand within the United States.

Artificial intelligence continues to dominate conversations in the investment world and has become one of the most influential investment themes in today’s markets. While enthusiasm around AI remains extremely strong, we continue to emphasize disciplined investing strategies tailored to each client’s individual goals and risk tolerance.

At Upward Financial Planning, we remain focused on building portfolios designed around long-term growth, dividend income, and prudent risk management.

Thank You for Your Continued Support

We are incredibly grateful for the trust our clients place in us each day. The growth we are experiencing would not be possible without your continued confidence, referrals, and support.

If you, your friends, or your family members are looking for guidance with financial planning, retirement planning, investment management, tax planning, or complex financial decisions, we would love the opportunity to help.

Please give us a call or send us an email to learn more about working with our team.

We are excited about the future — and we are just getting started.
